The ability to distill spirits is indispensable in a survival, post-collapse type of scenario. Grain alcohol can be used for disinfecting wounds and medical/surgical instruments, it’s a valuable barter item and can also help alleviate anxiety and stress in a survival situation (as long as it’s used safely and responsibly). Also, a whiskey still can be used to purify and desalinate water for drinking. It is, of course, illegal for US citzens to make their own spirits (the gov’t doesn’t like what it can’t tax), but it’s not illegal to know how to make it. This book was written closer to the whiskey rebellion than prohibition, (originally published in 1819) but just because it’s old, doesn’t mean the information isn’t valid.
