According to a former construction worker who allegedly took part in the construction of an underground section on the Denver International Airport (DIA) in the 1990?s named, Stu Webb, a massive 2.5-3 mile long tunnel system exists in and around the DIA complex.

Underground tunnels do exist around the world as the longest documented publicly known tunnel is located in New york and is 85.1 miles in length. It was drilled through solid rock in 1945 and is used as a waterway. The “Delaware Aqueduct is the newest of the New York City aqueducts. It takes water from the Rondout Reservoir through the Chelsea Pump Station, the West Branch Reservoir, and the Kensico Reservoir, ending at the Hillview Reservoir in Yonkers, New York.

The aqueduct was constructed between 1939 and 1945, and carries approximately half of the New York City water supply of 1.3 billion US gallons (4,900,000 m3) per day. The Delaware Aqueduct leaks up to 36 million US gallons (140,000 m3) per day. A $1 billion project to repair the leaking is scheduled to begin in January 2013?, according to Wikipedia.

There are many types of tunnels obviously, as some are used for water and some are used for other purposes.

According to Phil Schneider, there are over 132 D.U.M.B.’s that existed around the 1990 era. Most of these bases according to Scheider are linked together via massive dry underground tunnels. Schneider was an alleged geologist employed by the US Navy’s black Ops sector to help plan and aid in the construction of Deep Underground Military Bases (D.U.M.B.’s) for the government who was later found dead in his apartment after announcing the secret governments plans.

Some now speculate that DIA houses an underground base facility or some type of underground complex, although an airport would be an unusual place to have dry tunnels, some have reported just that. This could also explain why the airport went over $2 billion over budget during construction.

According to Stu Webb, a construction worker employed by a private contractor in the 90?s to work on an underground section of the airport, the construction company told him and other workers at the time that the massive tunnel system they were constructing leading to at least 5 other underground structures on the airport property were for waste water and sewage. However, according to Webb, he quickly caught on that the massive 12? x 16? tunnels were for something other than waste water and sewage saying in a later interview that “you could fit specially designed busses in the tunnels, they were that big”.

Webb maintains that five other buildings he’s aware of were constructed under ground at depths ranging from 60-120 feet. These buildings according to a diagram drawn by Webb (shown in the video interview) appear to be to the Northeast of the airports main canvassed terminal section approximately 2.5-3 miles. Webb also notes other important discoveries he made during and after his employment on the airports massive 52 square mile complex.

Webb went on to explain that the tunnels were divided up into many sections. These sections were all contracted to separate contractors to avoid employee suspicion of what the tunnels and underground strictures were actually for.

Webb also stated that there were secret runways that were buried during construction of the airport. These runways were hidden, covered by 4 inches of soil and sit approximately a half of a mile away from the 5 buried buildings or underground structures which then connect to the main section of the airport by way of those secret tunnels Webb worked on. When Webb questioned what the runways were for and why they were being buried he was told that they poured them in the wrong spot and it was a mistake. However, the expense of such an error would be great. And why would they pour a runway 2.5-3 miles off by mistake?

Webb speculates that the runway will serve as outbound runways in a time of civil unrest as he stated, “there are too many patriots here with guns”, referring to the United States.

According to Webb, there is also an area to the south of the buried buildings about 2.5-3 miles away from the comercial terminal as well where major construction was going on underground for about a 2 year duration. He explained that massive amounts of dirt were kicked up in that area, noting that some type of underground activity was going on durring construction. Webb also notes that the desert has now been restored to its original look as sage brush and other plant and animal life has been restored.

And if all of this seems wild to you it is known that tunnel boring technology exists. In fact, publicly announced technologies can bore up to 19.5 meter wide holes. Wikipedia explains a, “tunnel boring machine (TBM) also known as a “mole”, is a machine used to excavate tunnels with a circular cross section through a variety of soil and rock strata. They can borethrough anything from hard rock to sand. Tunnel diameters can range from a metre (done with micro-TBMs) to 19.25 m to date. Tunnels of less than a metre or so in diameter are typically done using trenchless construction methods or horizontal directional drilling rather than TBMs.”

In fact, there is even a Tunnels and Underground Structures Committee known as TRB AFF60. Their official website states, “The AFF60 Tunneling committee is formed by a group of professionals from tunneling and underground construction industry who have been active in the transportation sector. Tunneling experts from the owner, designer/engineer, contractors, and academia are members of this committee and in addition to their committee meeting, hold technical sessions and workshops to offer a forum for exchange of ideas and to educate and interface with the experts in the transportation industry.”

Other airports such as Washington’s Dulles International might be experiencing some new modifications along these lines as well. It looks like in most cases private contractors are hired for these projects as they are likely sworn to secrecy and or get hand outs via no bid contracts. A Washington Post writer, Bill Turque pointed out in 2007 that, “Secrecy is not the only issue surrounding the Public-Private Transportation Act of 1995. The law was designed to jump-start expensive road and transit projects by attracting private-sector investment and corporate efficiency to the process. It allows the state to dispense with traditional competitive bidding and select a single private partner to design and build a project for a fixed price and profit.

It hasn’t quite worked that way. The private contractor, Dulles Transit Partners — a construction consortium of Bechtel Inc. and Washington Group International — has put no money into construction of the extension’s first phase, which would run from just east of the West Falls Church Metro station to Wiehle Avenue in Reston by 2012. The consortium will be reimbursed for the $15 million it has spent on preliminary engineering work if it reaches an agreement with the state.

Other public-private projects completed or underway, including Route 28 interchanges in Fairfax County and a portion of Route 288 in Powhatan and Goochland counties, also involve little or no private money. The Dulles extension, the first rail project proposed under the public-private law, would be funded entirely with federal, state and local dollars, including more than $1 billion from Fairfax landowners, businesses along the Dulles Toll Road and motorists who use the road.

“There are some real significant issues of secrecy, accountability, conflict of interest and failure to protect the public trust,” said Stewart Schwartz, executive director of the Coalition for Smarter Growth, which advocates clustered development around transit stations.”

Turque demonstrates essentially how private contractors are utilized.

However, let’s get back to the Denver International Airport in Colorado. One thing is for sure, there is a massive pile of dirt on DIA’s property, and this isn’t the only airport with a pyramid on it, but that’s for another article. Google earth shows this massive pile of dirt that according to Avalon (an Intellihub.com writer/researcher) measures by the following dimensions:

Pyramid Base: Nearly 2500? x 2500?
Height: Approximately 500 feet
Approximately 0.00283³ miles of earth

Other unconfirmed reports say there is possible a 4.5 cubic mile base and or underground city that exists directly under the airport.

It makes you wonder. This massive pile of dirt definitely came from somewhere.

There are also ventilation shafts that are large enough to fit a jumbo jet in on the property and a heavy amount of electromagnetic energy is reported to be present. Some speculate these are reactor ventilation shafts.

There have also been unconfirmed reports of acres of chain link fenced in cages toped with barb-wire pointing inward somewhere under the facility. The cages are arranged in a concentration camp/FEMA camp style fashion according to the reports.

Other unconfirmed reports indicate that there is a section of tunnel under the airport that is forbidden to go is as a mysterious infectious mold exists and could be a potential threat to human life.

A Prophetic Dream

In the beginning of 2013, I sought God about the matters at hand. I had been asking Him to show me the things to come.

On the night of February 19, 2013, the Lord answered my prayer and gave me a glimpse of things to come through a prophetic dream. After praying about it and seeking Him, He has given me the clearance to share it so that I can warn the people.

(Note – The Timing of the Following Dream is Unknown.)

Dream Begins:

I was in a building looking out of a window with other people that I did not know. When the dream first began, I did not know where I was. But as the dream progressed, images began to appear before me.

The sky became filled with very dark clouds of the evening. The clouds resembled those of an impending thunderstorm. They were dark and very thick. From time to time, lightning flashed within them.

After a few moments, the skyline of Seattle, Washington appeared before me. I could see all of the downtown buildings of the city and beyond. I also noticed that I was at a high vantage point. I was at a location in the foothills of the Cascade Mountains, east of Seattle.

This meant that I was looking west towards Seattle and the Pacific Ocean. I could see all of the downtown area, as well as the landscape to the south and the north. I could also see the waters of Puget Sound located beyond downtown Seattle.

Unexpectedly, chaos erupted! The sky became darker.

From the south of downtown, I saw a glowing fireball coming out of the sky. It approached at an angle in slow motion.

I could see that it was not aiming towards the downtown area, but was headed beyond the location south of downtown and across the waters of Puget Sound.

Suddenly, missiles from the ground began to launch towards the approaching threat. I saw five to six missiles go into the sky towards the attacking fireball.

As I watched them launch, I was not sure what kind of missiles they were but I wondered to myself “Patriot Missiles?”

As they launched, the missiles also traveled in slow motion. But unfortunately, they missed and flew past the target! I remembered thinking, “Oh no! They missed!”

In the continuing chaos, a craft flew past me and also went towards the falling threat. The flying craft looked like some sort of drone or odd looking missile. It had narrow wings and was white and blue.

Suddenly, to the north of the downtown buildings, an explosion occurred in the sky. The blast was very high. It seemed to explode across the waters of the Puget Sound.

It appeared to occur several miles away from the city center. It did not explode into a mushroom cloud. Instead it exploded into a ball that became very bright and large. The ball remained a sphere as it expanded.

The explosion was so bright that I had to duck and look away.

After a moment of waiting, I again looked out of the window and saw the flash dissipating. As it started fading I said, “That was an EMP!”

I was wondering when the blast would reach me but it never did. I guess that as an observer in the dream. I was protected.

As I examined the post traumatic landscape, I was shocked by what I saw.

Every building before me in downtown Seattle had its windows blown out. Many were damaged but many were still standing. Pillars of smoke rose throughout, from the streets below. Dust was everywhere.

I became very sad. I do not know how many people were hurt in this event.

After I woke up, I was very disturbed. I needed to find answers.

I went online to look at the Seattle landscape on Google maps. Based on what I saw in my dream, I was able to find my approximate location. I was also able to calculate an approximation of where the objects were headed and/or exploded.

When I examined the points of impact, this glimpse became very DISTURBING!

It appears that west of Seattle across the Puget Sound are several military bases and installations.

The area of the lower assault is the Bremerton Naval Base and Shipyard.

The image above is from Google where we can see that many of our ships are there. Below is a “zoomed- in” close up of the area where I saw the anti-missiles try to respond but miss. I do not understand why they missed! I thought that we had an impregnable shield. (More on that later.)

In my dream, in the other area North of Bremerton, I saw an explosion in the air.

The area in the image below was under the explosion! It turns out that it is also a military base, a substantial one!


From Wikipedia: It is called Naval Base Kitsap. It is a U.S. Navy base located on the Kitsap Peninsula in Washington State. It was created in 2004 by merging the former Naval Station Bremerton with Naval Submarine Base Bangor.

The Mission of Naval Base Kitsap is to serve as the home base for the Navy’s fleet throughout West Puget Sound and to provide base operating services, including support for both surface ships and Fleet Ballistic.

In my dream the explosion in the air occurred over this base!!!


What Was It?

After I had this dream, I wondered if the flying objects were nuclear missiles or meteors.

I prayed and asked God for details and more information. At this moment in time, I do not have an answer.

Therefore, I am not sure what they were. I have many questions about this event.

If they were meteors, why would they attack two military bases? And could a meteor cause an EMP?

Was the first one a meteor? And was the second one that exploded in the air a “Tactical EMP Missile” of some sort?

I am still seeking God for answers. One thing I have learned about prophetic dreams. They are just glimpses, partial images. They are never a complete picture. We only “know in part” and “prophesy in part.”

But folks, I do know this, God did tell me to share this dream. He wants all people to be warned that events are coming that will test men’s hearts!

America will experience an attack. This dream event will be one of several cities that will experience these things.

For those of you that are wondering – “When?”

God Revealed that it will occur when people least expect it. Will it be soon? Or later? Will it happen within months or years from now? That part I do not know.

Why?

Over the past few months, I have been sharing many details about America’s coming demise. The things that she is experiencing right now are a part of God’s Divine Judgment.

America is NOT in a recovery! Her dismantling is still in motion. Thus far, most of her pain has been in the economic sector, but eventually, she will start to experience a new category of judgment. ….WAR!!!

As these things take place, God has also shown me in prophetic dreams that America will be attacked in a very ominous and destructive manner. This means that several American cities will see great destruction. American cities WILL BURN!

Ladies and Gentlemen, over the past few years, I have seen cities burning through prophetic glimpses! Sharing these things brings no pleasure!

It brings much pain!

In my early years, I never thought that America could ever get attacked! But this was before God showed me.

The Withering Hedge!

America’s Divine hedge of protection has been removed. Her walls of solitude and safety have crumbled. Her pillars of strength have fractured and toppled.

As a result, right now, America is in very dangerous territory.

Without God protecting her, how can she remain safe and preserved?

The majority of today’s Americans place no confidence in God. They do not see the point. So sadly, America will be left as a progressive thistle blowing in the wind.

The ungodly take pride in their leanings to the left. But folks, at what point will her dry stalk break? How far can she lean before she tumbles?

Her bones have become dry and fallow; a brittle soul in the wilderness. Will the world give her a drink? Or are they waiting to watch her die of thirst?

Grass always fades and America will soon learn the fate of her misleading self-reliance.

Folks, if you live within the borders of America and you do not know why the USA is sick, please seek to find an understanding of why she is going through this. The reason is NOT only a physical reason from the mind of logic and rational.

I encourage all of you to listen to it. It explains through the scriptures what the pillars are. It is in two parts. Please share it with your loved ones that you are trying to warn.

Finding Strength

Ladies and gentlemen, in the coming days, we all need to be getting our hearts strengthened in God.

I have been seeking God about which direction to go in future messages. I have many things to share but I am also seeing that there are many people that are not where they need to be spiritually.

Unfortunately, most people do not know what to do when it comes to seeking God and getting close to Jesus.

Therefore, I am going to be producing several sermon messages that will address how to come back to God. I know that there are many out there in internet land that are backslidden and struggling.

I want all of you to know that even though we are living at the edge of coming “doom,” there is still hope for you. God has a plan for you and He wants to get to know you better. It just takes your desire to see that happen.

For those of you who might live in the Seattle area, you may be wondering, “What to do?”

I asked God about that. He said, “Those that need to move away, are being shown what to do.”

In other words, if you are asking Him, He will tell you what to do.

Unfortunately, God also told me that most people do not listen to His voice when it comes to these things. Again, I do not have the timing for this event. It could be years away.

As a reminder, both David Wilkerson and Dumitru Duduman saw America burning in prophetic visions. They saw these things MANY years ago! God’s warning is always in advance; sometimes many years in advance. So will this attack happen soon? I do not know. Therefore, please follow the leading of the Holy Spirit for your personal relocation plans.

One thing to note about the explosion that I saw, it did not appear to be a regular nuclear event. It appeared to be an EMP. So here is the question. If you live in a city, can you ride out an EMP event? Only you can answer that question.

But the question cannot be addressed without wisdom and sobriety of heart. Neither can it be answered without God’s counsel and Holy Spirit leading.

My friends, we need to all be staying vigilant in these uncertain times. Great events are approaching. The wise ones will stay sheltered in God and seek to know what to do.

One thing you should not do is try to deal with these things without God’s involvement. To do this will result in walking in fear!

And folks, fear is a faith killer and a thief of God’s peace! May God grant you your portion of peace in the midst of this storm!

Nathan,

I just received an email regarding your dream, Alert Warning #6 – “I Saw an American City Attacked! – Destruction from the Sky!” and I was floored considering I had a very similar dream back on 5 September 2012. (184 days ago)

The huge ball/flash I saw was south to roughly SSE outside and above my bedroom window.

I tell you truly, (out of Godly fear) this is what I recalled seeing in a dream that morning.

5 September 2012

I live just north of Penn Cove, south of central Oak Harbor on the north end of Whidbey Island in Puget Sound and I had a very realistic dream this morning just after 0400 A.M.

The dream began with a huge flash from a ball of light (at about 45-60 degrees above the horizon basically south of where I live) that looked like the sun but was about fifty percent larger.

It lit up everything in my bedroom and was immediately followed by the sound of a ponderously loud clap-like explosion; immediately after, I found myself standing by my bed and I yelled out, ‘WOW’!

I hurredly walked to my open kitchen area and stopped between the kitchen and livingroom and tried to gather my thoughts of what had just happened and once again I said, ‘Wow’. I knew right away what had to have just happened (a nuclear blast), so I turned and walked to my south-facing kitchen window and looked out.

The whole area was scorched black, no trees, no houses, no cars, no people, just burned black devastation. The sky was still lit just enough to see that it was full of black smoke and ash and the faint orange glow several places along the horizon that must have been fires.

I also saw huge smoking streamers falling everywhere out of the sky towards the ground which looked eerily similar to the CGI effects used in the movie scene in ‘2012’ after the Yellowstone caldera exploded.

I could see the air concussion wave off in the distance headed our way, so I turned away from the window while walking away from it I yelled, ‘Air burst, get down now!…get down now!’ and then I awoke.

I don’t ever recall having a dream like this before in my whole life, but it makes sense. Since moving back to the island in 2009, I have felt like this would be the likely scenario for the Puget Sound area at some point.

With a large viable cargo port, sub base, Joint Base Lewis McCord (combined airforce and army bases which I read somewhere houses a significant nuclear stockpile), Bremerton Naval Shipyard, home to a number of naval fleet refit operations, Everett Naval Base home of two aircraft carriers and NAS Whidbey and of course, Boeing’s massive facilities in Everett, South Seattle and Auburn, plus Microsoft, etc. No doubt this area has long been a top ten Russian nuclear target. I’m not frightened by the prospect of it because perfect Love casts out fear and I am reconciled with Abba through the shed blood of Yeshua – Jesus who is blessed forevermore.

My friend Robert and I finished reading Alan Weisman’s The World Without Us almost simultaneously – and we both noted one specific passage.

Before we get to that, however, the premise of Weisman’s book – though it does, more often than not, drift away from this otherwise fascinating central narrative – is: what would happen to the Earth if humans disappeared overnight? What would humans leave behind – and how long would those remnants last?
These questions lead Weisman at one point to discuss the underground cities of Cappadocia, Turkey, which, he says, will outlast nearly everything else humans have constructed here on Earth.

Manhattan will be gone, Los Angeles gone, Cape Canaveral flooded and covered with seaweed, London dissolving into post-Britannic muck, the Great Wall of China merely an undetectable line of minerals blowing across an abandoned landscape – but there, beneath the porous surface of Turkey, carved directly into tuff, there will still be underground cities.

Of course, I’m not entirely convinced by Weisman’s argument here – not that I have expertise in the field – but Turkey is a very seismically active country, for instance, and… it just doesn’t seem likely that these cities will be the last human traces to remain. But that’s something for another conversation.
In any case, Weisman writes:

No one knows how many underground cities lie beneath Cappadocia. Eight have been discovered, and many smaller villages, but there are doubtless more. The biggest, Derinkuyu, wasn’t discovered until 1965, when a resident cleaning the back wall of his cave house broke through a wall and discovered behind it a room that he’d never seen, which led to still another, and another. Eventually, spelunking archeologists found a maze of connecting chambers that descended at least 18 stories and 280 feet beneath the surface, ample enough to hold 30,000 people – and much remains to be excavated. One tunnel, wide enough for three people walking abreast, connects to another underground town six miles away. Other passages suggest that at one time all of Cappadocia, above and below the ground, was linked by a hidden network. Many still use the tunnels of this ancient subway as cellar storerooms.

I was excited to learn, meanwhile, that another – quite possibly larger – underground Cappadocian city, called Gaziemir, was only opened to tourists this summer (someone send me, please!), having been discovered in January 2007 (a discovery which doesn’t seem to have made the news outside Turkey).
So the next time the ground you’re walking on sounds hollow – perhaps it is… Whole new cities beneath our feet!

I was also excited to read, meanwhile, that these subsurface urban structures are acoustically sophisticated. In other words, Weisman writes, using “vertical communication shafts, it was possible to speak to another person on any level” down below. It’s a kind of geological party line, or terrestrial resonating gourd.

There were even ancient microbreweries down there, “equipped with tuff fermentation vats and basalt grinding wheels.”

Meanwhile, Robert, my co-reader of Weisman’s book, pointed out that the discovery of Derinkuyu, by a man who simply “broke through a wall and discovered behind it a room that he’d never seen, which led to still another, and another,” is surely the ultimate undiscovered room fantasy – and I have to agree.
However, it also reminded me of a scene from Foucault’s Pendulum – which is overwhelmingly my favorite novel (something I say with somewhat embarrassed hesitation because no one I have ever recommended it to – literally no one – not a single person! – has enjoyed, or even finished reading, it) – where we read about a French town called Provins.

In the novel, a deluded ex-colonel from the Italian military explains to two academic publishers that “something” has been in Provins “since prehistoric times: tunnels. A network of tunnels – real catacombs – extends beneath the hill.”

The man continues:

Some tunnels lead from building to building. You can enter a granary or a warehouse and come out in a church. Some tunnels are constructed with columns and vaulted ceilings. Even today, every house in the upper city still has a cellar with ogival vaults – there must be more than a hundred of them. And every cellar has an entrance to a tunnel.

The editors to whom this story has been told call the colonel out on this, pressing for more details, looking for evidence of what he claims. But the colonel parries – and then forges on. After all, he’s an ex-Fascist.
He’ll say what he likes.
As the colonel goes on, his story gets stranger: in 1894, he says, two Chevaliers went to visit an old granary in Provins, where they asked to be taken down into the tunnels.

Accompanied by the caretaker, they went down into one of the subterranean rooms, on the second level belowground. When the caretaker, trying to show that there were other levels even farther down, stamped on the earth, they heard echoes and reverberations. [The Chevaliers] promptly fetched lanterns and ropes and went into the unknown tunnels like boys down a mine, pulling themselves forward on their elbows, crawling through mysterious passages. [They soon] came to a great hall with a fine fireplace and a dry well in the center. They tied a stone to a rope, lowered it, and found that the well was eleven meters deep. They went back a week later with stronger ropes, and two companions lowered [one of the Chevaliers] into the well, where he discovered a big room with stone walls, ten meters square and five meters high. The others then followed him down.

So a few quick points:
1) Today’s city planners need to read more things like this! How exciting would it be if you could visit your grandparents in some small town somewhere, only to find that a door in the basement, which you thought led to a closet… actually opens up onto an underground Home Depot? Or a chapel. Or their neighbor’s house.
2) Do humans no longer build interesting subterranean structures like this – with the exception of militaries, where, to paraphrase Jonathan Glancey, we still see the architectural imagination at full flight – and I’m referring here to things like Yucca Mountain, something that would surely be too ambitious for almost any architectural design studio today – because they lack the imagination, or because of insurance liability? Is it possible that architectural critics today are lambasting the wrong people? It’s not that Daniel Libeskind or Peter Eisenman or Frank Gehry are boring, it’s simply that they’ve been hemmed in by unimaginative insurance regulations… Is insurance to blame for the state of contemporary architecture?
And if you called up State Farm to insure an underground city… what would happen?
Or if you tried to get UPS to deliver a package there?

In any case, underground cities are far too broad and popular an idea to cover in one post – there’s even a Stephen King story about a maze of tunnels discovered beneath some kind of garment factory in Maine, where cleaners find a new, monstrous species of rat – and I’ve written about these subterranean worlds before. For instance, in Tokyo Secret City and in London Topological.
While I’m on the subject, then, London seems actually to be constructed more on re-buttressed volumes of air than it is on solid ground.
As Anthony Clayton writes in his Subterranean City: Beneath the Streets of London:

The heart of modern London contains a vast clandestine underworld of tunnels, telephone exchanges, nuclear bunkers and control centres… [s]ome of which are well documented, but the existence of others can be surmised only from careful scrutiny of government reports and accounts and occassional accidental disclosures reported in the news media.

Meanwhile, I can’t stop thinking about the fact that some of the underground cities in Cappadocia have not been fully explored. I also can’t help but wonder if more than two thousand years’ worth of earthquakes might not have collapsed some passages, or even shifted whole subcity systems, so that they are no longer accessible – and, thus, no longer known.
Could some building engineer one day shovel through the Earth’s surface and find a brand new underground city – or might not some archaeologist, scanning the hills with ground-penetrating radar, stumble upon an anomalous void, linked to other voids, and the voids lead to more voids, and he’s discovered yet another long-lost city?
It’s also worth pointing out, quickly, that there is a Jean Reno film, called Empire of the Wolves, that is at least partially set inside a subsurface Cappadocian complex. What’s interesting about this otherwise uninteresting film is that it uses the carved heads and statuary of Cappadocia not at all unlike the way Alfred Hitchcock used Mount Rushmore in his film North by Northwest: the final action scenes of both films take place literally on the face of the Earth.
In any case, I should be returning to the topic of underground cities quite soon.

Director of the DIA Warns China preparing for warfare in space

DIA director: China preparing for space warfare

Army Lt. Gen. Ronald L. Burgess, director of the Defense Intelligence Agency, disclosed new details of China’s space weapons programs last week, including information regarding China’s anti-satellite missiles and cyber warfare capabilities.

Burgess stated in little-noticed written testimony prepared for an appearance before the Senate Armed Services Committee that Beijing is developing missiles, electronic jammers, and lasers for use against satellites.

Much of the space warfare activity is being carried out under the guise of China’s supposedly non-military space program, he said.

“The space program, including ostensible civil projects, supports China’s growing ability to deny or degrade the space assets of potential adversaries and enhances China’s conventional military capabilities,” Burgess said.

“China operates satellites for communications, navigation, earth resources, weather, and intelligence surveillance, and reconnaissance, in addition to manned space and space exploration missions,” he said.

“China’s successfully tested a direct ascent anti-satellite weapon (ASAT) missile and is developing jammers and directed-energy weapons for ASAT missions,” he said. “A prerequisite for ASAT attacks, China’s ability to track and identify satellites is enhanced by technologies from China’s manned and lunar programs as well as technologies and methods developed to detect and track space debris.”

China’s January 2007 anti-satellite missile test involved a modified DF-21 missile that destroyed a Chinese weather satellite. The blast created a debris field in space of some 10,000 pieces of space junk that could damage both manned and unmanned spacecraft.

For the U.S. military, the successful 2007 ASAT test represented a new strategic capability for China. Analysts estimate that with as many as two-dozen ASAT missiles, China could severely disrupt U.S. military operations through attacks on satellites.

Burgess said China rarely admits that its space program has direct military uses and refers to nearly all satellite launches as scientific or civil.

Additionally, Burgess said Chinese state-run enterprises “continue to proliferate space and counter-space related capabilities,” including some with direct military applications.

For example, China’s Beidou global positioning system satellites will be available for regional users this year and globally by 2020, he said.

The satellites will provide foreign militaries with precision targeting capabilities through purchases of Chinese Beidou receivers and services.

The system will provide foreign militaries with “greater redundancy and independence in a conflict scenario that employs space assets,” he said.

The Chinese, as well as the Russians, are also developing space capabilities that interfere with or disable U.S. space-based navigation, communications, and intelligence satellites.

Moreover, North Korea has demonstrated its ability to disrupt U.S. navigational capabilities through Soviet-made electronic jammers placed on vehicles near the North-South demarcation line that, when activated, were able to disrupt U.S. Global Positioning System signals up to 62 miles away.
