10 Ways the War on Drugs is an Incredible Success

10 Ways the War on Drugs is a Wild Success

Eric Blair

For all the evidence of how the War on Drugs has failed society, there’s equally as much evidence of how it is a great success to those who continue to support it. The drug war has many advantages if you wish to control society and expand your empire. It also enriches several industries that would otherwise have a very difficult time staying solvent without it.

Here are ten ways the War on Drugs is a wild success:

Military-Industrial Profits:
As the Vietnam War came to an end, it struck fear into the military-industrial machine that enjoyed great profits from that conflict. In a world where contrived enemies were needed to keep a constant funding of weapons, Richard Nixon declared drugs “Public Enemy Number 1”. Thus, domestic armies were erected to combat the illegal drug trade, delivering consistent cash flow to weapons manufacturers. These companies make money, not just from the needs of the DEA, border patrol, and local police forces, but also from drug traffickers. Win-win and profits all around.

Huge Boon to Private Prisons:
The private prison industry thrives off long sentences for drug offenders. At least 25% of their profits come from these nonviolent criminals. A great number more are held on “drug related” charges that may have resulted in drug violence. However, the current trend shows that three-quarters of new inmates admitted to state prisons are nonviolent offenders. Private prisons clearly depend on arresting pot smokers and addicts of more severe drugs.

Prevents Higher Unemployment Rates:
Imagine if the millions of American currently jailed on drug charges were released into a job market already suffering from real unemployment numbers over 20%. Additionally, if it wasn’t for drugs being illegal, countless people like DEA agents, court staff, prison guards, parole officers, drug dealers, etc would otherwise be unemployed. Thank goodness for the war on drugs, or the U.S. economy would look even worse.

Suppresses Minority Populations:
It’s often said that the drug war is a war on minorities: “According to the ACLU, African Americans make up an estimated 15% of drug users, but they account for 37% of those arrested on drug charges, 59% of those convicted and 74% of all drug offenders sentenced to prison. Or consider this: The U.S. has 260,000 people in state prisons on nonviolent drug charges; 183,200 (more than 70%) of them are black or Latino.” So it is a huge success for those who wish to suppress minority populations.

Drives Up Prices:
Making any substance illegal will result in much higher prices than a free market would dictate. Especially when there’s a high demand for that substance. In the case of the cannabis plant, which grows like a weed and requires very little value added, the dried flower would virtually be free if it wasn’t for the harsh restrictions and dangers involved in producing and distributing it. These high prices are terrific for drug dealers and even medical marijuana growers opposed legalization in California because it threatened their profits.

Drug Violence Justifies Tough Gun Laws: The violence generated from the prohibition of drugs is reminiscent of the extreme mob violence during the prohibition of alcohol. Prohibition of anything will always create black markets which require firearms to protect banned products. Recently, the U.S. government itself was caught red-handed supplying guns to Mexican drug cartels in their “Fast and Furious” scandal. It’s now proven that the ATF plotted to use Fast and Furious to push for new gun control regulations. Indeed, most street violence is due to turf wars over the drug trade, and tougher gun laws are proposed as the war escalates. It’s wonderful for those who blame violence on guns and wish to restrict them from law-abiding citizens.

Protects Big Pharma Monopolies: No one is happier about the war on drugs than Big Pharma. Their control over the FDA and monopoly of “controlled substances” would be threatened if all drugs were legalized. They want you addicted to their FDA-approved versions of heroin and cocaine, not something you can get on the black market. In turn, they also benefit greatly when the prices of street drugs increase, as they can then inflate the cost of their products. They love the drug war so much they’ve lobbied to extend it to vitamins and supplements.

Allows Proxy Armies: If you want to create an empire by force, but it’s politically disadvantageous to base your army in certain countries, then the global war on drugs is your ticket to supplying troops or creating proxy armies. One of the most recent examples is Costa Rica, a peaceful country in Central America without an army, where the U.S. bribed the government to allow the Navy and Marines to be stationed off the Caribbean coast to fight the war on drugs. In other nations where even this won’t be allowed, the CIA funds and arms one of the drug cartels who then act as their hired enforcers, or they’re used as an excuse for governments to accept U.S. help to combat the enemy they created. In either case, the U.S. sells more arms and trains soldiers to be used upon command.

Keeps Big Banks Flush with Cash:
It has long been known that big banks happily launder money for the big drug cartels. According to The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) and the International Monetary Fund (IMF), “Up to 1.5 trillion dollars in drug money are laundered through legal enterprises, accounting for 5% of global GDP.” Take just this year and one bank, Wachovia; who had to pay a slap-on-the-wrist fine for laundering more than $420 billion for Mexican drug cartels. Imagine where the big banks would be without this money, given that they also needed a bailout of over $23 trillion for lack of sufficient deposits to pay for their gambling habits.

Funds CIA Black Ops: Do you ever wonder where the U.S. government gets all that money for their secret “Black Ops” like underground bases, secret wars, corporate takeovers and seed money, etc? It’s been proven over and over that the CIA (and Pentagon) controls a large majority of the illicit drug trade either directly or indirectly through proxies mentioned above. They’ve been caught in the act of shipping in massive amounts of cocaine, while the CIA now openly admits to protecting and facilitating the opium trade in Afghanistan. If it wasn’t for this tremendous profit, the CIA would not be able to build their secret shadow government.

So, as you can see, there are great benefits to the War on Drugs depending what side of the coin you’re on. If you’re a poor pot smoker, well, you’re out of luck. But if you’re the biggest heroin and cocaine dealer in the world and desire a monopoly . . . well, you’ve got the world right where you want it.

Attack On White House By Mexican Cartel Stuns Obama Regime – Cant understand why, They armed them in exchange for Drugs.

Attack On White House By Mexican Cartel Stuns Obama Regime – Cant understand why, They armed them in exchange for Drugs.

A new Federal Security Services (FSB) report circulating in the Kremlin today states that the Obama regime was stunned this past weekend after a brazen attack on the White House was carried out by members associated with at least two Mexican drug cartels that shattered at least one window in what is arguably the most protected building in the world.

According to this report, and confirmed by the US Secret Service, this Friday past at least 2 bullets from an AK-47 semi-automatic assault rifle were fired at the White House with one reported to have reached the building’s internal anti-ballistics glass which was shattered by the impact.

The timing of this attack, according to the FSB, was meant to occur when President Obama (he had just begun a trip to Asia) was not in the building as the normally high security when he is there, though still potent, is somewhat relaxed.

The FSB further reports the firing of just 2 bullets was a deliberate attempt by the attackers to thwart the White House areas acoustical-detection system which under normal conditions needs at least 3 shots before it can accurately pinpoint the location from which the shots are being fired from.

Later Friday evening, this FSB report continues, the vehicle from which the shots were fired from was located by US Secret Service, FBI and local police authorities with the AK-47 laying across the back seat with a warning note saying “Aquí está uno de los nuestros, no la suya necesitan,” roughly translated from its original Spanish meaning… “Here’s one of ours, we don’t need yours.”

The FSB states that the warning note found on the AK-47 was in direct reference to the Obama regimes gun-running efforts (known as Operation Fast and Furious) to arm the dangerous Sinaloa Cartel as it battles to gain supremacy in a Mexican Drug War that has so far cost nearly 40,000 lives.

The Sinaloa Cartel, whose leader Joaquin ‘El Chapo’ Guzman was just named by Forbes as one of the wealthiest and most powerful people in the world, is backed by the Obama regime over their fears the Mexican government is collapsing.

Citing an unnamed CIA source, a recent Washington Times article theorizes that the Obama regime was actively aiding the Sinaloa Cartel with guns and immunity in an effort to stymie the Los Zetas Cartel. That’s because, according to the article, the powerful and brutal criminal Zetas syndicate has the potential to overthrow the government of Mexico — and might be planning to do so.

To who directed this unprecedented attack against the White House the FSB states was a Knights Templar Drug Cartel assassin smuggled into the US from Mexico by the brutal drug gang known as Barrio Azteca which has recently extended its reach to the American State of Idaho.

Both the FSB and US news report identify the Knights Templar assassin as Oscar Ramiro Ortega, a 21-year-old Mexican national who the FBI is currently seeking in Idaho, but who Russian intelligence experts say may already have already been secretly captured by the CIA.

Lending credence to the Russian experts who say Ortega may have already been captured and tortured for information by the CIA are reports emerging from Mexico that the leader of the quasi-religious Knights of Templar drug gang, Juan Gabriel Orozco Favela, was captured Monday in a combined raid on his headquarters by US and Mexican special forces troops.

Important to note, this FSB report says, is that coinciding with this historic attack on the White House was the assassination of Mexican Interior Minister Francisco Blake Mora whose helicopter was shot down over Mexico City on Friday, a shocking death that saddened President Obama.

The FSB reports that Mora was “targeted” due to his allowing the Obama regime to send hundreds of CIA and US Military forces into Mexico in what many Mexicans consider a blatant violation of their sovereignty, but Russian intelligence experts say were needed due to the inability of Mexican authorities to control what is actually an “all-out” war.

Unfortunately for the American people is their not being allowed to know from their “mainstream” media that the deadliest war of the 21st Century is currently being waged on their own border, and with Mexican drug cartels now reported to be operating in nearly every US State.

As American law enforcement authorities are now warning that they are tracking what appears to be a more aggressive approach toward the United States by Mexican drug cartels, and the powerful Sinaloa Cartel is now warned is considering a military assault against US government or media buildings in Mexico City, and as many of these cartels also have moved some of their marijuana cultivation into the Upper Midwest of the United States, one should think the knowledge of these things should be of vital importance.

The “powers that be” in the US, however, think otherwise leaving their citizens in great danger from the greater horrors to come…and by this latest attack on the White House shows its coming much sooner than later.

by Ulsterman

Author’s Note: This is our second interview with a longtime Wall Street Insider – an individual who, under agreed-to anonymity in order to protect their own and their client’s interests, wishes to share their views on the presidency of Barack Obama, and the past, present, and future of the American socio-economic system.

Ulsterman: First, I have to thank you once again for agreeing to the initial interview. I understand you were very hesitant, but in the end I think it went very well.

WS Insider: Agreed. I found the result to be acceptable. If I had not, there certainly would not have been this second interview.

Ulsterman: Given what is happening just down the road from this office, I have to ask you about the Occupy Wall Street events. You have to have pretty strong feelings about all of this?

WS Insider: Not really. Very little of it is real. It’s…politics. It’s stupid kids being played by powers they don’t have the capacity to understand. That’s not to say it isn’t potentially dangerous, or that the president has acted terribly irresponsibly in his clear support for the protests. But for now, I view it all as a silly sideshow. A distraction really. Or an attempted one.

Ulsterman: How so?

WS Insider: What?

Ulsterman: A distraction. How are the protests a distraction?

WS Insider: How isn’t it all a distraction? Look how some in the media are attempting to elevate the protests as something noble – something…”American”. There is nothing American about what those kids are doing down there. It’s silly. It’s boorish behavior from a wound-up mob of perpetual discontents. It’s manipulation actually. Basic manipulation.

Ulsterman:
Who is manipulating this? Who is behind it? Obama? President Obama?

WS Insider: Not the president directly, no. He’s simply a benefactor of this – at least he hopes to be. He’s not capable of this. President Obama, but for a handful of years and millions of dollars, is just as ignorant and foolish as those kids playing those damn drums in the street. The fact such a person was made President of the United States is more than a bit…troubling.

Ulsterman: So who is manipulating the protests? You seem to indicate you know.

WS Insider:
Oh, I believe most people really know. There are media who certainly know. Some of it has already been reported. Labor unions. I would place the labor unions as first in line in helping set all of this up. This anti-Wall Street rubbish. As I told you previously, labor unions are destroying this country. Have been for some time. Not the rank and file mind you – but the leadership. They have been infected. The leadership within those unions have been overtaken by the most vile leftist, anti-free market figures in the history of this nation. I truly believe that. And as their numbers have declined in private industry, these unions have turned their attentions to federal, state, and local jurisdictions – vastly increased their membership numbers in those institutions. And they are twisting the arm of this president – hard.

Ulsterman: How so?

WS Insider: What did you see in the streets down there? Beyond the stupidity of those kids. Those ridiculous people. What did you see?

Ulsterman:
A mess. A loud mess.

WS Insider: That mess as you call it…that mess is power. A display of power. These unions are showing the president who holds the real power over these people. They can work for this president, or they can work against him – and it will be the unions who ultimately will make that decision. That is a significant message being played out down there. President Obama has little to do with controlling such a mob. He is simply a by-product of it. His jobs bill? (Shakes head) That move is nothing more than a feeble promise by the president that more money is on its way. To those unions. The first stimulus bill…what was that but a massive payback to his labor union masters? Keep those government checks coming. Those millions of government employees – the country has reached the tipping point there. To have a government so big, so vast, so powerful, so controlled now by organized labor. Labor whose leadership openly embraces socialism, Marxism, and any number of other –isms that all add up to anti-freedom. Anti-business. Anti-America. That is what is unfolding just down the street from us. The people engaged in it are silly and stupid. Ignorant and incapable. But the motives of the organizer behind these protests are very-very dangerous to the country. To each and every one of us. We are all in terrible danger here.

Ulsterman: That’s rather bleak.

WS Insider: The truth often is. My words don’t do justice to just how dire the situation has become.

Ulsterman: What’s the remedy? How does the country go about…dealing with this threat?

WS Insider: Vote. Educate ourselves – and vote. It is the genius of our system – the simplest of remedies, and yet…we squander the opportunity in this country time and time again in favor of continued protection of self-interest, or giving in to more and more distraction. If your house is on fire, do you continue watching Dancing with the Stars, or do you take action to put out the flames? America is on fire this very moment. Freedom is being attacked at every level – everywhere. President Obama is simply adding fuel to this fire. He appears to have no interest in putting out those flames. Far from it. And why would he? His entire life is a product of years of anti-Americanism is it not? From his upbringing as a child, to his time as a radicalized college student and later community organizer…to his ascent to the Presidency of theUnited States. He is what he is, and this country so foolishly and irresponsibly ignored all the realities that are Barack Obama, and gifted him the powers of president. We are all to blame for this. All of us.

Ulsterman:
I didn’t vote for the man.

WS Insider: Your attempt to disqualify blame is not that simple.

Ulsterman: You just said voting was the simplest of remedies. Your words.

WS Insider: (Pause) Yes…

Ulsterman: I didn’t vote for the man. Did you?

WS Insider: No.

Ulsterman: No? You voted for McCain?

WS Insider: No – I didn’t vote. I haven’t voted for…for a very long time.

Ulsterman: Really? Why not? How can you sit here and say how genius our system of free elections are and then admit to not even participating?

WS Insider: I won’t offer up any excuse. No reasonable one exists. As I said, we are all guilty – we are all to blame for how the country has devolved into its current condition. Myself included.

Ulsterman: So do you intend to vote now? 2012? You intend to vote?

WS Insider: Yes – and more.

Ulsterman: More what?

WS Insider: Just as our friend is working to defeat the president’s re-election hopes from within the Democratic Party, I am doing what I can in my world. And I’m not alone in doing so.

Ulsterman: Wall Street – the donors, the bundlers, they won’t support Obama, right? I’ve heard that already.

WS Insider: That’s accurate to some degree – when you say “Wall Street” it’s not a single-entry clubhouse. Far more vast than that. And the difference of opinions even more so. But there is a considerable…refusal if you will, to accommodate this president’s desire to be re-elected among a growing number who are directly or indirectly involved with Wall Street and the business community at large. This president has attempted to use us as his excuse for what ails the country too often. It comes much too easily to him.

Ulsterman: You seem confident.

WS Insider: Good – that’s my intent.

Ulsterman: Is it reasonable? Your confidence?

WS Insider: Yes.

Ulsterman: How so? Why?

WS Insider: That…I cannot say. Not yet.

Ulsterman: The last time we spoke…you were pretty adamant about maintaining respect for the president – President Obama. You made a point of correcting me when I addressed him. Do you still feel the need to remain so respectful of somebody you also seem to think was a terrible mistake for the country? And if so, why?

WS Insider: It’s how I view the office of president. Its tradition. It’s…legacy. This is the greatest country in the history of humankind. In the last century we saved the world not once – but twice. Toward the end of that century we freed hundreds of millions from the tyranny of communism…off the subject just a bit…but I have been told you have a great deal of admiration for President Reagan. Is that so?

Ulsterman:
Yes…and I was told you met him. Personally.

WS Insider: I did. Through a connection to one of his California people. They were the foundation of his candidacy. The seed money if you will. I was loosely affiliated with helping to organize some of that here inNew York. A remarkable collection of talent surrounded that man – President Reagan. And he gave every indication of knowing that – and acknowledged it often. Much to his credit.

Ulsterman: And you met him…when he was president?

WS Insider: I did. It remains one of the greatest moments of my life to have shaken his hand. A great human being and yet he was so humble. The right man at a time when the country needed that very thing. There is so much in common to that time and this time. What the country is facing. It’s eerie the similarities.

Ulsterman: Did you vote for Reagan?

WS Insider: President Reagan. You mean to say President Reagan.

Ulsterman: Yes – did you vote for President Reagan?

WS Insider:
It is with more than a bit of regret I tell you I did not.

Ulsterman: Shame on you.

WS Insider:
Yes. I have had few regrets in this life. That is one of them.

Ulsterman: You do intend to vote in 2012 though, right?

WS Insider: Yes – that’s what I said…and much more than that. Much more.

Ulsterman: Can you be more specific?

WS Insider: How about we start with those fools in the streets? Time to sweep the streets clean of that charade.

Ulsterman: How do you plan on doing that?

WS Insider: By picking up a broom.

Ulsterman: You won’t say?

WS Insider: No.

Ulsterman: What then?

WS Insider:
More former donors will back off from the president. There will be a significant shift away from the White House in donations. Significant. K-Street…much of it, is running from this administration. And for good reason of course. Then the ad firms will push against the networks a bit – to facilitate somewhat more balanced coverage of the election than what befell us in 2008. That was a travesty.

Ulsterman: Ad firms?

WS Insider: Yes. Networks require revenue from these firms…hundreds of millions…billions, in revenue each year. It is what sustains them. That revenue will not be a given this time around. Things must change. That change will not benefit President Obama. The unions will attempt to counterbalance that. Let them try – we will outspend them this time around. We now have the means to more easily do so. They put up half a billion for President Obama the last time. Fine. We will put up a billion against him – or more if need be, in 2012. These unions wish to promote an anti-capitalism agenda and wrap it around the current resident of the White House? Fine – we will be promoting and protecting the free market as much as has ever been done in my professional lifetime – and that goes back more than a few years. This face didn’t come to me by taking the easy way. I earned every crack and crevice.

Ulsterman: What if Obama – President Obama…what if he wins re-election?

WS Insider: As our mutual acquaintance has already told you, that is simply not an option. I want to make something clear here – perhaps I haven’t done so enough. I have the utmost respect for the position of president. I have come to hold little respect for the individual who currently holds that position. I am absolutely convinced of his inability to comprehend even a fraction of what is happening around him. He is not so much stupid…I don’t wish to say that – but he is clearly very-very ignorant. There appear to be those around him who like it that way. Sadly, in order to get to them, we must first inflict a certain degree of damage onto the office of president.

Ulsterman: What do you mean by damage?

WS Insider: Our friend has indicated to you their belief that the Fast and Furious scandal is the most serious challenge facing the administration. That it could lead to the downfall of Attorney General Holder and then leave the president himself vulnerable to things that took place back inChicago. Is my understanding of that correct?

Ulsterman:
Yes – that sums it up…pretty good.

WS Insider: I don’t agree with that though. Fast and Furious is a serious offense to be sure. What has been revealed – to this point only partially, by the Solyndra scandal, is far more serious, not only to this administration but to the entire Democratic Party. Many of them have their hands in the corruption that was the Obama Stimulus Bill of 2009. Solyndra is but one small example of how that money was spent. The dealings that took place under the false guise of saving the economy.

Ulsterman: Are you…are you implying –name withheld- is not being honest in their views regarding Fast and Furious vs. Solyndra?

WS Insider:
I don’t wish to say they lack honesty. I would simply caution you to keep your options open when determining which is the more valuable tool to be used against the Obama administration. Perhaps both can play equal parts. It is my personal understanding – and this is the talk of others in positions of some influence, that Solyndra – what Solyndra could ultimately reveal, could prove far more damaging to the entire political system…and certainly to the Democratic Party. –Name withheld- has spent their adult life protecting that party, promoting that party, and they have made a fine living for themselves doing so. That kind of loyalty, while admirable, can prove somewhat debilitating when it comes to the kind of… absolution necessary to right these kinds of wrongs. I will say this – I cannot recall when so many who are so powerful have been so afraid as there are at this time. –Name withheld- still believes the Democratic Party can be saved. I don’t agree. Their attempt to salvage what is left of the party may lead them to promote one Obama scandal over another one at the expense of the greater truth. I would simply ask that you maintain equal vigilance. Can you do so?

Ulsterman:
I thought I had.

WS Insider: Perhaps. Perhaps not.

Ulsterman:
So you are gonna push the Solyndra scandal against the president?

WS Insider: Me? No. Others more capable of such things are already doing that. I am simply pointing out I believe it to ultimately be of more consequence than Fast and Furious. Or at the very least – equally important.

Ulsterman:
I have no problem with that – whatever it takes to bring down Obama.

WS Insider: President Obama.

Ulsterman: Right…President Obama.

WS Insider: You dislike calling him that, don’t you?

Ulsterman: He’s not my president. I won’t give him that respect.

WS Insider:
Respect is to be earned. I would agree he has not done much in that regard.

Ulsterman: So look for the Wall Street protests to be…”swept up”. Look for donors to continue to pull away from the president. Look for…look for…

WS Insider: The ad firms. The ad firms to place pressure upon the networks to provide more favorable coverage.

Ulsterman:
What else? Am I missing something?

WS Insider: Solyndra. And more like it. Much more.

Ulsterman: Thank you again for this opportunity.

WS Insider: Before you go, do you mind if I ask you something?

Ulsterman: Feel free.

WS Insider:
Who do you plan on voting for in 2012?

Ulsterman: Anyone but Barack Obama.

WS Insider: It’s that simple for you?

Ulsterman: Yes – yes it is.

WS Insider:
You have no preference yet? From among the GOP candidates?

Ulsterman: Preferences…sure. I don’t have an individual choice yet. Why do you ask?

WS Insider: I find your…how simple you seem to make it. Rather…refreshing.

Ulsterman: The right things are often the most simple. At least in my experience.

WS Insider: I am not sure if I should call that naïve or something else.

Ulsterman: Call it whatever you like – at the end of the day I could give a sh-t.

WS Insider: (Chuckles) I hope we get to do this again soon. I’m beginning to genuinely enjoy our little talks. You’re every bit as interesting as I was told you were.

Ulsterman: Thank you. I feel the same.

US Resists Calls for Action as Saudis say Iran Must, ” Pay The Price”!

Saudis say Iran must ‘pay the price’ for alleged plot as US resists retaliation

Ewen MacAskill and Saeed Kamali Dehghan

Tehran denies it was behind plot to kill Saudi ambassador and says US is using it to divert attention from problems at home

The Saudi Arabian government has issued a menacing warning to Iran that it will have to “pay the price” for the alleged plot to hire a Mexican drugs cartel to assassinate its ambassador in Washington.

The threat from the Saudis came as the Obama administration resisted calls from within the US, mainly from the conservative right, to retaliate against Iran with military action.

But Iran denied it was behind the alleged plot, with officials claiming Washington had fabricated the story to divide Sunni Muslims – the dominant group in Saudi – and Shias, the dominant group in Iran. Tehran’s leadership claimed Barack Obama was using the story to divert attention from the Occupy Wall Street protesters.

The foreign ministry summoned the Swiss ambassador, who handles US interests in the country, to condemn what it called “baseless claims” and warn “against the repetition of such politically motivated allegations.”

A Saudi prince, Turki al-Faisal, a former ambassador to Washington and a former head of the Saudi intelligence service, told a conference in London: “The burden of proof and the amount of evidence in the case is overwhelming, and clearly shows official Iranian responsibility for this. This is unacceptable. Somebody in Iran will have to pay the price.”

The US justice department announced on Tuesday that two men had been charged over the plot to assassinate the Saudi ambassador to Washington, Adel al-Jubeir, in a bomb explosion at one of his favourite restaurants.
Manssor Arbabsiar Manssor Arbabsiar

One of the men, Manssor Arbabsiar, an American-Iranian, is alleged to have sought the help of a Mexican drugs cartel, Zetas, to provide explosives and carry out the attack. The other man, Gholam Shakuri, is in Iran, according to the US.

Relations between Saudi Arabia and Iran have long been strained, exacerbated this year by the Saudis sending forces into neighbouring Bahrain to help put down protesters, many of them Shia Muslims.

In spite of increased tension between Saudi Arabia and Iran as a result of the episode, the alleged plot is being met with scepticism within the diplomatic community, as well as from foreign affairs analysts specialising in Iran, who said the plot was amateurish and did not fit in the usual Iranian modus operandi, and questioned what Iran would gain from such an episode.

A former western diplomat with an intimate knowledge of Iranian affairs said: “I don’t believe Iran’s regime was behind the plot. If we assume it was Iran’s plot, it would seem like a group of professional gangsters hiring a careless agent for their most important project. It’s impossible.

Fresh details emerged on Wednesday about Arbabsiar, the man at the centre of the supposed plot, who appeared in court in New York on Tuesday charged with conspiracy, and who is allegedly linked to the Iranian Revolutionary Guard.

He was a car salesman in Corpus Christi, Texas, where he ran a number of businesses, largely unsuccessful. He does not fit the usual profile of an Iranian agent, who tend to be professional.

The US is taking the issue to the UN security council to seek action against Iran – but it will need to offer evidence to back its claim. One of the main pieces of evidence is a $100,000 sum transferred to the US, allegedly from Iran, as a downpayment for the assassination attempt.

Susan Rice, the UN ambassador to the UN, and a team of experts from the justice department, were briefing individual members of the security council about the plot on Wednesday.

“It is a dangerous esclation of Iran’s long-scale use of violence,”
Jay Carney, the White House spokesman, told reporters at a briefing. On a possible military response, he said no options had been taken off the table, but emphasised that the US was focusing on diplomatic and economic measures against Iran, including new sanctions against an airline accused of transporting revolutionary guard personnel.

The vice-president Joe Biden, in an ABC television interview, said the administration was focused on mounting a major diplomatic effort to persuade its allies in Europe and elsewhere to impose tougher economic sanctions on Iran.

As the State Department issued a three-month worldwide travel alert for American citizens, secretary of state Hillary Clinton described the alleged plot as a “reckless act”.

“Such worn-out approaches are … part of the special scenarios staged and pursued by the enemies of Islam and the region to sow discord among Muslims,” the semi-official Fars news agency quoted foreign ministry spokesman Ramin Mehmanparast as saying.

Fars also quoted Alaoddin Boroujerdi, the head of the parliamentary committee on national security and foreign policy, who said: “No doubt this is a new American-Zionist plot to divert the public opinion from the crisis Obama is grappling with.

Today, the United States is witnessing a popular uprising called Wall Street protests which have targeted the hostile policies of that country’s statesmen.

“Thus, Americans are seeking to derail the public opinion from the Wall Street uprising.”

#2 ATF agents were specifically ordered not to intercept the guns before they crossed the border. The following is a brief excerpt from a CBS News report that detailed the fierce objections that many ATF agents expressed when they were ordered to stand down….

On the phone, one Project Gunrunner source (who didn’t want to be identified) told us just how many guns flooded the black market under ATF’s watchful eye. “The numbers are over 2,500 on that case by the way. That’s how many guns were sold – including some 50-calibers they let walk.”

50-caliber weapons are fearsome. For months, ATF agents followed 50-caliber Barrett rifles and other guns believed headed for the Mexican border, but were ordered to let them go. One distraught agent was often overheard on ATF radios begging and pleading to be allowed to intercept transports. The answer: “Negative. Stand down.”

CBS News has been told at least 11 ATF agents and senior managers voiced fierce opposition to the strategy. “It got ugly…” said one. There was “screaming and yelling” says another. A third warned: “this is crazy, somebody is gonna to get killed.”

#3 Operation Fast and Furious remained a secret until the murder of Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry last December. Two guns that were sold during Operation Fast and Furious were found at the scene of the murder.

#4 ATF Special Agent John Dodson was one of the first to blow the whistle on Operation Fast and Furious. Dodson explained to the House Government Reform and Oversight Committee on June 15, 2011 that many ATF agents were becoming extremely frustrated when they were ordered to cut off surveillance on the weapons that were being sold because they knew “that just days after these purchases, the guns that we saw these individuals buy would begin turning up at crime scenes in the United States and Mexico.”

#5 It appears that Operation Fast and Furious began some time around September 2009. At that time, the ATF began pressuring gun shops near the border with Mexico to participate in a new covert operation that was being set up. The gun storeowners were told to help the ATF get guns into the hands of people that would take them back to the Mexican drug cartels.

The following description of the mechanics of Operation Fast and Furious comes from a recent Los Angeles Times article….

In the fall of 2009, ATF agents installed a secret phone line and hidden cameras in a ceiling panel and wall at Andre Howard’s Lone Wolf gun store. They gave him one basic instruction: Sell guns to every illegal purchaser who walks through the door.

For 15 months, Howard did as he was told. To customers with phony IDs or wads of cash he normally would have turned away, he sold pistols, rifles and semiautomatics. He was assured by the ATF that they would follow the guns, and that the surveillance would lead the agents to the violent Mexican drug cartels on the Southwest border.

When Howard heard nothing about any arrests, he questioned the agents. Keep selling, they told him. So hundreds of thousands of dollars more in weapons, including .50-caliber sniper rifles, walked out of the front door of his store in a Glendale, Ariz., strip mall.

#6 In some gun stores, cameras were set up so that top ATF officials could actually watch these transactions take place. Back in June, U.S. Representative Darrell Issa stated the following….

“Acting Director Melson was able to sit at his desk in Washington and himself watch a live feed of straw buyers entering the gun stores and purchasing dozens of AK-47 variants.”

#7 It has also come out that in some cases ATF agents were actually the ones buying the guns and getting them into the hands of Mexican drug cartels. The following is how author Michael A. Walsh recently explained this in an article in the New York Post….

This just might be the smoking gun we’ve been waiting for to break the festering “Fast and Furious” gun-running scandal wide open: the Department of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives apparently ordered one of its own agents to purchase firearms with taxpayer money, and sell them directly to a Mexican drug cartel.

Let that sink in: After months of pretending that “Fast and Furious” was a botched surveillance operation of illegal gun-running spearheaded by the ATF and the US attorney’s office in Phoenix, it turns out that the government itself was selling guns to the bad guys.

#8 According to the Los Angeles Times, guns that were purchased during Operation Fast and Furious have “turned up at dozens of additional Mexican crime scenes, with an unconfirmed toll of at least 150 people killed or wounded.”

#9 Mexican authorities were never informed that thousands upon thousands of guns were being allowed into Mexico.

#10 Authorities in Mexico have asked the U.S. government over and over to explain what in the world happened during Operation Fast and Furious but they have not been given an adequate answer. In fact, according to the Los Angeles Times, the Obama administration has not even responded to questions from the attorney general of Mexico….

Marisela Morales, Mexico’s attorney general and a longtime favorite of American law enforcement agents in Mexico, told The Times that she first learned about Fast and Furious from news reports. And to this day, she said, U.S. officials have not briefed her on the operation gone awry, nor have they apologized.

#11 U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder has been withholding key documents about Fast and Furious from Congress and has been consistently stonewalling U.S. Representative Darrell Issa, U.S. Senator Chuck Grassley and other members of Congress that have attempted to look into this matter.

#12 The acting director of the ATF, Kenneth Melson, had been cooperating with the investigation. At the end of August he was suddenly transferred to the Justice Department’s Office of Legal Policy.

#13 Several other key officials that were heavily involved in Operation Fast and Furious actually got promoted.

#14 On May 3rd, U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder testified under oath in front of the House Judiciary Committee on Operation Fast and Furious. During that testimony, Holder made the following statement….

“I probably heard about Fast and Furious for the first time over the last few weeks.”

#15 Since that time, a large amount of evidence has come out that Holder was not telling the truth. For example, a recent Fox News article discussed some of the very revealing memos about Fast and Furious that have been discovered recently….

However, newly discovered memos suggest otherwise. For instance, one memo dated July 2010 shows Michael Walther, director of the National Drug Intelligence Center, told Holder that straw buyers in the Fast and Furious operation “are responsible for the purchase of 1,500 firearms that were then supplied to the Mexican drug trafficking cartels.”

Other documents also indicate that Holder began receiving weekly briefings on the program from the National Drug Intelligence Center “beginning, at the latest, on July 5, 2010,”

#16 Holder now claims that he simply misunderstood the question. He now says that he had heard of Operation Fast and Furious previously but that he was not aware of the specific details.

#17 Emails exchanged between two Department of Justice officials last October make it abundantly clear that high-level officials at the DOJ were very aware of what was going on…

Two Justice Department officials mulled it over in an email exchange Oct. 18, 2010. “It’s a tricky case given the number of guns that have walked but is a significant set of prosecutions,” says Jason Weinstein, Deputy Assistant Attorney General of the Criminal Division. Deputy Chief of the National Gang Unit James Trusty replies, “I’m not sure how much grief we get for ‘guns walking.’ It may be more like; “Finally they’re going after people who sent guns down there.”

#18 House Republicans are now asking for a special prosecutor to be appointed to investigate whether or not U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder lied to Congress during his recent testimony in front of the House Judiciary Committee on Operation Fast and Furious.

#19 U.S. Representative Darrell Issa believes that those involved in the Fast and Furious gun trafficking operation may have violated international arms trafficking agreements and could potentially face very serious criminal charges.

#20 U.S. Senator Chuck Grassley is absolutely convinced that a major cover-up is going on….

“But I can tell you this. They’re doing everything they can, in a fast and furious way, to cover up all the evidence or stonewalling us. But here’s the issue, if he didn’t perjure himself and didn’t know about it, the best way that they can help us, Congressman Issa and me, is to just issue all the documents that we ask for and those documents will prove one way or the other right or wrong.”

#21 Did Barack Obama ever know about Operation Fast and Furious? He says that he did not authorize the program. On March 22, 2011 Obama made the following statement….

“I did not authorize [Fast and Furious]. Eric Holder, the attorney general, did not authorize it. There may be a situation here in which a serious mistake was made. If that’s the case, then we’ll find — find out and we’ll hold somebody accountable.”

#22 CBS News investigative journalist Sharyl Attkisson claimed on the Laura Ingraham show the other day that officials in the Obama administration were literally screaming and yelling at her for aggressively investigating the Fast and Furious scandal….

Ingraham: So they were literally screaming at you? ?Attkisson: Yes. Well the DOJ woman was just yelling at me. The guy from the White House on Friday night literally screamed at me and cussed at me. [Laura: Who was the person? Who was the person at Justice screaming?] Eric Schultz. Oh, the person screaming was [DOJ spokeswoman] Tracy Schmaler, she was yelling not screaming. And the person who screamed at me was Eric Schultz at the White House.”

U.S. Government Used Taxpayer Funds to Buy, Sell Weapons During ‘Fast and Furious,’ Documents Show

By William Lajeunesse

Not only did U.S. officials approve, allow and assist in the sale of more than 2,000 guns to the Sinaloa cartel — the federal government used taxpayer money to buy semi-automatic weapons, sold them to criminals and then watched as the guns disappeared.

This disclosure, revealed in documents obtained by Fox News, could undermine the Department of Justice’s previous defense that Operation Fast and Furious was a “botched” operation where agents simply “lost track” of weapons as they were transferred from one illegal buyer to another. Instead, it heightens the culpability of the federal government as Mexico, according to sources, has opened two criminal investigations into the operation that flooded their country with illegal weapons.

Documents Detail ATF Involvement in ‘Fast and Furious’

The following documents detail the role the ATF played in buying and selling weapons as part of its controversial “Fast and Furious” operation.

Operation Fast and Furious began in October 2009. In it, federal agents from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives encouraged gun stores to sell weapons to an arms smuggling gang, then watched as the guns crossed the border and were used in crimes. Each month, the agency allowed hundreds of guns to go South, despite opposition from some agents.

All told, the gang spent more than $1.25 million for the illegal guns.

In June 2010, however, the ATF dramatically upped the ante, making the U.S. government the actual “seller” of guns.

According to documents obtained by Fox News, Agent John Dodson was ordered to buy six semi-automatic Draco pistols — two of those were purchased at the Lone Wolf gun store in Peoria, Ariz. An unusual sale, Dodson was sent to the store with a letter of approval from David Voth, an ATF group supervisor.

Dodson then sold the weapons to known illegal buyers, while fellow agents watched from their cars nearby.

This was not a “buy-bust” or a sting operation, where police sell to a buyer and then arrest them immediately afterward. In this case, agents were “ordered” to let the sale go through and follow the weapons to a stash house.

According to sources directly involved in the case, Dodson felt strongly that the weapons should not be abandoned and the stash house should remain under 24-hour surveillance. However, Voth disagreed and ordered the surveillance team to return to the office. Dodson refused, and for six days in the desert heat kept the house under watch, defying direct orders from Voth.

A week later, a second vehicle showed up to transfer the weapons. Dodson called for an interdiction team to move in, make the arrest and seize the weapons. Voth refused and the guns disappeared with no surveillance.

According to a story posted Sunday on a website dedicated to covering Fast and Furious, Voth gave Dodson the assignment to “dirty him up,” since Dodson had become the most vocal critic of the operation.

“I think Dodson demanded the letter from Voth to cover both himself and the FFL (Federal Firearm Licensee). He didn’t want to be hung out to dry by Voth,” a source told the website “Sipsey Street Irregulars.”

Subsequent to this undercover operation, sources told Sipsey, “Dodson just about came apart all over them (his supervisors). In a ‘screaming match’ that was heard throughout the Phoenix office by many employees, Dodson yelled at Voth and Assistant Special Agent in Charge George Gillett, ‘Why not just go direct and empty out the (ATF) arms room?” (to the cartels), or words to that effect.’

After the confrontation, ATF managers transferred Dodson to a more menial job. Months later, after the death of Border Patrol agent Brian Terry, Dodson blew the whistle and went public about the federal government’s gunrunning operation.
