George W. Bush Tells Jeb to ‘Run,’ Says Jeb vs. Hillary Would Make ‘Fantastic Photo’
By Rick Klein
UNIVERSITY PARK, Texas — Former President George W. Bush says he isn’t interested in playing on the national political stage any longer. But for family, he’s making an exception.
Asked in an interview with ABC News’ Diane Sawyer whether he thinks his brother former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush should run for president in 2016, the ex-president was unequivocal.
“He’d be a marvelous candidate if he chooses to do so. He doesn’t need my counsel ’cause he knows what it is, which is ‘run,’ ” the elder Bush brother said about Jeb’s possible candidacy, in an interview that first aired Wednesday on “World News with Diane Sawyer.” “But whether he does or not, it’s a very personal decision.”
The former president even allowed himself to picture the potential 2016 matchup: Jeb Bush vs. Hillary Rodham Clinton. It would be a family rematch of the 1992 election, when George H.W. Bush lost to Bill Clinton.
“It’ll be a fantastic photo here. It would certainly eclipse the museum and the center,” Bush said on the eve of the formal opening of the George W. Bush Presidential Center at Southern Methodist University, just outside Dallas. “I’m interested in politics. I’m, you know, I’m fascinated by all the gossip and stuff that goes on. But the field won’t be become clear ’til after the midterms.”
Asked for a word of advice to the Republican Party, the former president struck an optimistic note amid rounds of GOP soul-searching: “You will exist in the future,” he said with a smile.
On several major issues, though, Bush made clear he’s staying away from day-to-day political battles.
With some Republicans calling for immigration reform to be slowed down in the wake of terrorist attack in Boston apparently carried out by two immigrants, the former president brought up his previous support for comprehensive reform but said he wouldn’t be commenting on specific legislation.
“I’m a strong advocate in reforming a broken system,” Bush said. “It’s a difficult issue for members of Congress to deal with. And they’re just gonna have to figure out how best to deal with a very complex issue. And I don’t know all the particulars of the bill. I do know the system is not working.”
Bush also took a pass on the issue of gun control and expanded background checks, which he voiced support for as president.
“There’s a lotta issues that people would like to get my opinion on, and I really decided to stay out of the public arena,” he said.
He took a similar tack on gay marriage, which Bush opposes — a position that puts him at odds with his former vice president, Dick Cheney; his 2004 campaign manager, Ken Mehlman; and his wife, Laura, and daughter Barbara.
“No, but thank you for trying,” Bush said when asked whether he’d like to explain his position in that fast-evolving debate. “I’m not weighing in on issues. … See, you’re either in or out.”
George P. Bush Runs for Office in Texas
George P. Bush is officially running for Texas land commissioner — ending months of speculation about which statewide office the grandson of one former president and nephew of another planned to seek.
An attorney from Fort Worth and Spanish-speaker whose mother, Columba Bush, is originally from Mexico, Mr. Bush is considered a rising star among conservative Hispanics.
Mr. Bush, 36 years old, is the son of Jeb Bush, the former Florida governor who is considered a potential 2016 Republican presidential candidate. He is the nephew of former President George W. Bush and the grandson of former President George H.W. Bush.
George P. Bush’s spokesman, Trey Newton, told the Associated Press that Mr. Bush spoke with current Land Commissioner Jerry Patterson before filing the official paperwork Tuesday. Land commissioner can be a stepping stone to higher office in Texas. Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst served in the post before winning his current job.
Mr. Bush unveiled a new campaign website and featuring a three-minute video in which he says, ”Texas is an exceptional state because we as Texans are exceptional.”
Mr. Bush has been working to use his Maverick PAC to tap a new generation of 20- to 30-something donors that haven’t been actively involved in the Republican Party.
Texas Police Kill Unarmed Man Before Confiscating Witness Camera and Deleting Images
By Carlos Miller -…
Police in Texas shot an unarmed man 41 times, then turned around and confiscated another man’s camera after he started taking photos and shooting video of the bloody aftermath.
Dallas-area cops then deleted the man’s footage before returning the camera four days later.
Now police from two agencies are vowing to do a “complete investigation,” which, of course, means we will hear nothing more about the August 31 incident for at least several months.
But so far, the partial investigation has determined that Garland police officer Patrick Tuter lied in his initial report when he claimed that suspect Michael Vincent Allen backed his truck into the patrol car, causing the cop to fear for his life and leaving him no choice but to fire 41 times, meaning he reloaded at least once.
Miraculously, a 20-year-old unarmed woman who was sitting in the cab of the pick-up truck emerged unscathed.
According to the Dallas Morning News, Mesquite police officers confiscated the witness’s camera:
“From the time they yelled, ‘Get out, get out,’ they didn’t give him three seconds to get out,” Mitchell Wallace said, adding that he counted about 20 bullet holes in Allen’s truck.
Wallace and his wife were asleep when the gunshots began, but they quickly made it to the porch to see Allen’s passenger being pulled from the truck and a police dog jumping into the cab. The German shepherd bit Allen in the neck and jaw area and dragged him out of the truck and onto the pavement, Wallace said.
Police officers pulled the dog off, flipped Allen on his stomach and handcuffed him before checking his pulse. Autopsy results are pending on the cause of Allen’s death.
Wallace took cellphone pictures and video after the shooting stopped, but he said Mesquite police confiscated the phone and deleted the video and pictures. The phone was returned four days later, he said.
Mesquite police are conducting the criminal investigation, which hopefully includes whether or not Tuter acted lawfully, and Garland police are conducting the internal investigation.
Photography is Not a Crime reader Avi Adelman, a Dallas resident who runs the local news blog Barking Dogs is demanding Mesquite conduct an internal investigation into their officers for confiscating Wallace’s camera and deleting his images, which is a violation of federal law.
The law states that police need a court order to confiscate a camera unless it was used in a commission of a crime. The only exception is if there are exigent circumstances, such as a strong belief that the witness will destroy the photos, therefore destroying evidence.
Under no circumstances do police have the right to delete footage.
Adelman stated the following in a letter he fired off to Mesquite City Manager Ted Barron:
Mr. Barron, the actions of the unnamed Mesquite police officer(s) was a violation of Mr. Mitchell’s First and Fourth Amendment rights. Attached to this fax is a US Department of Justice memo clearly outlining the issues regarding illegal seizures and deletions of video and photos captured by the public of police activities. I am also requesting in advance a copy of the Mesquite Police Departments internal affairs investigation, under the Texas Public Information Act.
Adelman has also been staying on top of the Memorial Day incident in which a Dallas sheriff deputy arrested a motorcyclist because he wouldn’t hand over his helmet camera footage as evidence against other bikers.
Adelman contacted the sheriff’s department late last month about that incident and was told it was still under investigation.
When he made some critical comments regarding that incident on the Dallas Sheriff Facebook page, they were deleted immediately.
In the recent incident, police say they tried to pull Allen over because he had been involved in a previous chase with another Dallas-area law enforcement agency.
But then they said he led them on a 30-minute chase with speeds reaching 100 mph.
He eventually pulled into a cul-de-sac, which is when they said he tried to ram his way to freedom.
But a dash cam video proved that to be a lie.
Garland police also said Tuesday that dash-cam video revealed that Officer Patrick Tuter crashed his squad car into a truck driven by the suspect, Michael Vincent Allen, before the shooting started. Initial reports had said Allen had hit Tuter’s car, prompting the officer to open fire.
It was only two months ago that Houston police also confiscated a camera from a witness in the aftermath of a shooting, an incident in which no update has been made available.
UPDATE: As of this writing, the Dallas Sheriff’s deputy who arrested the motorcyclist was suspended without pay for nearly two months.

The Safest City In The US And The Most Dangerous City In The World Are Only 300 Feet Apart
The Santa Fe bridge links Juarez (bottom) and El Paso (top).
El Paso, Texas was the safest city in the U.S. in 2010.
Juarez, Mexico, across the Rio Grande river, has the highest murder rate in the world.
This incredible division emerged thanks to a confluence of global forces, according to Michael Casey’s new book, “The Unfair Trade.” These include the rise of Chinese manufacturing and subsequent decline of Mexican manufacturing; the rise of violent drug cartels to fill the void; and U.S. drug and immigration policies that have set Mexico on fire.
Casey describes the juxtaposition:
The economic outlook for small-business owners in [Juarez] is gloomy. According to the Juárez Restaurants Association, half of all dining establishments closed in the three years leading up to 2011, many shifting operations to El Paso. In a bitter irony, the neighboring Texas city boasts the lowest crime rate in the United States, a natural marketing advantage with which the newly relocated restaurants appeal to those Juárez residents who are free to travel to the United States and prepared to put up with a long wait at the border. Not so long ago, the flow went the other way. The Mexican city, where the margarita cocktail was invented in 1942, was an entertainment mecca, home to countless restaurants, nightclubs, casinos, bars, and hotels. In the mid-2000s, American teenagers would still wander across the International Bridge spanning the Rio Grande to visit watering holes on the Juárez side, where the drinking age was lower and where the scene was far more lively than in El Paso. But the bars on the street next to the bridge have all since closed, replaced by businesses catering to northbound travelers such as moneychangers and travel accessory stores. Meanwhile, those restaurants that still operate in other parts of Juárez now typically serve breakfast and lunch but rarely do dinner, because at night patrons are scared of being the target of a kidnapping or hit with a barrage of bullets.
Casey’s book describes how the global financial system dominated by China and the U.S. is also causing trouble in Australia and Indonesia and among the U.S. middle class.

Dopey Texas Perp Taunts Local Cop With Vulgar Tattoo He Will Soon Regret
After Jonathan Thompson was arrested Monday for fighting with his stepfather, the 30-year-old Texan was booked into the county lockup, where jailers took his mug shot and photographed his tattoos for identification purposes.
As seen at right, that inventory included a piece disparaging a local constable who had arrested Thompson in March for burglary (and who also busted him this week).
The constable, Woody Wallace, told TSG that after he learned of the tattoo–which Thompson got following his burglary collar–he asked Thompson why he would have “Woody Wallace Can Suck My Dick” inked on his thigh. “He said, ‘Because I was mad at you the last time,’” Wallace said.
Wallace, now a candidate for Trinity County sheriff, said that Thompson was sentenced to probation following the burglary conviction. However, in light of this week’s arrest, Thompson (pictured above) could have his probation revoked and be sent to state prison for two years.
FBI: Hate Crimes Target Blacks In 70 Percent Of Race-Based Cases
Blacks were the group most likely to be the targets of race-based hate crimes, according to a new federal report.
The report, compiled by the FBI’s civil rights division, found that the large majority of racial bias crimes were “motivated by anti-black bias.” Latinos were the targets of 66 percent of all hate crimes motivated by ethnicity or national origin. Jews were the targets of most crimes against religious groups, and most crimes against a particular sexual orientation or gender were motivated by “anti-homosexual male bias.”
The number of hate crimes remained essentially flat between 2009 and 2010. There were 6,628 hate crimes reported in 2010, up very slightly from 6,604 in 2009. About 47 percent of all the reported hate crimes were racially motivated, with 20 percent motivated by religion, 19.3 percent motivated by sexual orientation, and 12.8 percent motivated by nationality.
“Almost a fourth of our 2010 civil rights caseload involved crimes motivated by a particular bias against the victim,” said Eric Thomas, the bureau’s civil rights chief in Washington. “We frequently worked these cases with state and local law enforcement to ensure that justice was done–whether at the state level or at the federal level.”
The FBI said that because of the James Byrd, Jr. Hate Crime Prevention Act, the bureau is making some changes to collect more information for bias crimes against a particular gender or gender identity and for crimes in which juveniles are targets. The law, which was signed by President Obama in 2009 and was meant to bolster and expand existing hate crimes laws. It is named after two of the most high profile victims of hate crimes in recent memory. Shepard was a college student who died in 1998 after being tortured and tied to a fence for being gay. That same year, Byrd, a black man in rural Texas was killed after being dragged behind a pickup truck for miles by a group of white supremacists. At the time of their killings, there were no hate crime laws in many states.

Ron Paul: The Most Pro-Israel Candidate
After last week’s GOP debate in Ames, Iowa we received many questions about Ron Paul’s stance on Israel and Iran. And while as grassroots supporters we do not speak for Ron Paul himself in any way, here’s how we understand his position.
Ron Paul: The Most Pro-Israel Candidate
First of all, it may come as a surprise to many that Ron Paul is actually the most pro-Israel candidate in the presidential race.
With hundreds of nuclear weapons in her possession, Israel has become the most powerful state in the Middle East. She could easily take on her neighbors and eliminate any and all threats to her existence.
Ron Paul would not stop Israel from defending her interests in any way she saw fit. When Israel attacked a nuclear reactor in Iraq in 1981, almost the entire U.S. Congress voted to condemn the act. Ron Paul was one of the few dissenters: he voted against the condemnation and in favor of Israel’s right to self-determination.
Ending Foreign Aid Sets Israel Free
Ron Paul has also been criticized for wanting to “end foreign aid to Israel.” He had in fact called for an end to all foreign aid in general. Foreign aid is like an entitlement: eventually the recipient grows dependent on it and will do everything in his power to continue the flow of funds. This might even involve spending some of the already-received payments to “lobby” for more money.
Ron Paul believes this is a bad thing. Not only does foreign aid lead to corruption on both sides; it is inherently immoral. Ron Paul said that “foreign aid is taking money from the poor people of a rich country and giving it to the rich people of a poor country.”
If foreign aid to all countries were stopped immediately, Israel would be the biggest net beneficiary. This is because the U.S. pays much more foreign aid to Israel’s enemies combined than to Israel.
Like a discouraged unemployed person whose welfare payments are about to run out, Israel would finally have the motivation to take care of herself, for example by ending socialist domestic policies within Israel. This in turn would make Israel much stronger and more independent. Ending all foreign aid would indeed set Israel free.
Iran Is a Big Nobody
Iran is a large country, but from a military point of view they are a big nobody. They are surrounded by nuclear powers, they have no air force, no navy, and they are even incapable of producing as much gasoline as they need. Iranian officials are relegated to grudgingly hoping that “the Zionist regime will collapse”, which is the real meaning of Ahmadinejad’s infamous phrase frequently mistranslated as “we will wipe Israel off the map”.
Is is understandable that Iran wants to gain the international respect they deserve as a country of 75 million people. But according to U.S. intelligence reports there are no indications whatsoever that Iran is actively working on creating or obtaining a nuclear weapon.
Israel Can Do What She Wants – But Leave America Out of It
If Israel believes that Iran might one day become a nuclear power and that such a development would be against her interests, Ron Paul would not stop Israel from doing whatever she deemed necessary to defend herself. Israeli assassination squads are already operating within Iran, and several Iranian nuclear scientists found themselves torn apart by mysterious explosions over the past few years. Ron Paul did not interfere. In fact, he would not even prohibit Israel from initiating a devastating nuclear attack on Iran.
However, neither would Ron Paul allow American lives to be sacrificed for Israeli interests. If Israeli officials knew that American kids will not throw themselves into the line of fire whenever Israel feels threatened by the boastful words of some wannabe dictator, Israel will act more responsibly when dealing with her neighbors – and grow much stronger for it.
Ron Paul Will Allow Israel to Blossom
Like it or not, Ron Paul is the most pro-Israel candidate out there. His wise policies – not by design, but by pure logical consequence – will permit Israel to blossom as a truly free, independent and powerful state.
This article does not claim to represent Ron Paul’s official position on Israel and Iran. It’s just a summary of how we – as his grassroots supporters – interpret his statements on the issue. Please post a comment if you believe we misinterpreted Ron Paul’s position

Texans Could Vote on Expanding Gambling
The Texas Gaming Association says expanding gambling could bring in $1.2 billion a year in gaming taxes alone.
By CHRIS TOMLINSON
Texans could get to vote on a constitutional amendment to expand gambling.
The House Licensing and Administrative Procedures Committee will hear testimony on a number of measures to allow casinos and slot machines. The Texas Gaming Association is backing a measure that would license eight casinos and slot machines at eight racetracks. Other measures would allow gambling on Indian reservations or slot machines at bingo halls.
The Texas Gaming Association says its proposal could bring in $1.2 billion a year in gaming taxes alone. The organization also released a poll it said found that 86 percent of Texans believe there should be a vote on gambling.
The state faces a $23 billion budget shortfall over the next two years. Opponents warn that gambling could bring more trouble than it’s worth.
State Lawmaker Wants Drug Tests For Welfare Recipients

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WBBM) – A state lawmaker wants welfare recipients to submit to drug tests in order to receive aid, but he admits the proposal isn’t ready for a full debate – and probably won’t make it into law this year.
This isn’t the first time State Rep. Jim Sacia (R-Pecatonica) has introduced such a measure. He first introduced it three years ago when a constituent asked him why welfare applicants don’t submit to drug tests, but many job applicants do.
This year’s bill would create a pilot program to administer the drug tests in three counties for three years.
Sacia cautions his bill will not fix all welfare problems. But he says lawmakers must create a way to foster a change in recipients’ attitudes, and this is a good start.
“We have to come up with a way, and this is a Panacea I recognize that, where we’re creating a motivational factor for people to want to get off the welfare rolls, to get back to legitimate employment,” explains Sacia.
Sacia says House Bill 11 is imperfect, but is getting better. He says one of the bills’ amendments will eventually address how to pay for the drug tests, but the specifics have yet to be hammered out.
The proposal has received significant push back in its first three years, namely from the House Human Services Committee.
“I will not move the bill until I get a bill that I can get those who are adamantly opposed to it, maybe not to necessarily say they’re in support of the bill, but to go neutral on [it],” says Sacia.
